Medical Trainees Symposium: A day in the life of a medical trainee - Friday 22 January 2021- Online Symposium
Our 2021 annual Medical Trainee Conference, organised by the Trainees & Members' Committee of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, aims to provide an interactive diverse programme, covering both outpatient and inpatient clinical encounters relevant for medical trainees. It will be delivered entirely online. Our programme gives a snapshot of a day in the life of a medical trainee. We will start the day with a morning covering diverse topics from outpatient clinics, such chronic breathlessness in a respiratory clinic, the nuances of neurology examination and appropriate assessment of anaemia. In the afternoon, we move to discussing topics from the acute hospital setting environment, such as critical care management, cardiology emergencies in the coronary care unit and frailty assessment at the front door.
This varied and engaging programme also includes our 47th Sir John Halliday Croom Lecture and our Keynote Lecture. Our Keynote lecture, delivered by Professor Pat Croskerry (Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of Critical Thinking Program within the Division of Medical Education, Dalhousie University, Canada) will outline the fascinating psychology of clinical decisions, cognitive bias and the factors that influence medical decision making. The programme will conclude with our popular Clinical Lessons session.
