Join the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh for this year's Gastroenterology Symposium, which has been developed in association with the American College of Gastroenterology and the Scottish Society of Gastroenterology, and we would like to express our sincere thanks for their support. We are excited to bring together leading experts across the globe for this hybrid symposia.

Gastrointestinal diseases account for a significant portion of the overall global disease burden, with more than one-third of prevalent cases having a digestive aetiology in 2019. Liver cirrhosis and other chronic liver diseases had the highest prevalence rate, with an increasing incidence of inflammatory bowel disease and digestive cancers presenting at an earlier age. Digestive diseases can be inversely related to the sociodemographic index, and the impact of obesity is yet to be fully realised. Optimisation of healthcare resources and the application of machine learning may provide tangible solutions to global diseases.
