The Scottish Society of Gastroenterology evolved from the Caledonian Society in 2001. Its aim is to represent the professions with a primary interest in Gastroenterology including physicians, surgeons, nurses, physiologists and dieticians. The society works to deliver its aims by providing educational opportunities via our meetings, by supporting research and providing a professional voice and opinion to government and the health service. It also exists for the mutual support of its members, so that they can find advice and support in their endeavours. The mainstay of the society are our twice a year meeting, which are organised in rotation by hospitals around Scotland. In addition, we organise training days for specialty trainees in Gastroenterology and Taster days for those considering a career in gastroenterology. The society has as its members most Gastroenterologists in Scotland and many other specialists and nurses who work in aspects of Gastroenterology or have an interest in issues related to Gastroenterology.
