Hello and welcome to the SSG
The society is formed of people in Scotland or linked to Scotland who have an interest in gastroenterology and hepatology, from multiple backgrounds, specialities and disciplines, united by common aims to improve standards and quality of care for people affected by diseases of the liver and intestinal tract. The Society is run by it’s members focussed on delivering our aims.
From a personal perspective I have been a member of the society now for over 25 years. During that time, I have enjoyed the warm friendship, advice and support of my colleagues in the society as I developed from a nervous trainee doing my first ever research presentation, though my early consultant career to the current honour the society has given me as its president. Due to the hard work of many members of the society it is in good shape, with a growing membership and popular well attended educational meetings. It has an increasing role in providing expertise and advice to Government as well as NHS bodies and committees.
As my term ends, I see many people stepping forward to give their time and effort to keep the society progressing and I see many new young colleagues joining us to take the society through to its next chapter. The revitalised SSG website is testament to this and I am proud to leave this as part of my legacy as President and confident that for years to come this will continue to serve to promote all that the Society stands for.
